Board Of Trustees
In accordance with its Bylaws (most recently revised and adopted on June 16, 2025), the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) maintains a Board of Trustees composed of seven (7) to eleven (11) voting members. These members represent a rich tapestry of diverse professional and academic backgrounds, ensuring comprehensive representation.
The Board is chaired ex officio by the local ordinary of the Chaldean Archdiocese of Erbil, currently His Grace Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda, C.Ss.R. Five (5) trustees are appointed directly by the Chair, and the remaining five (5) are elected by majority vote of a quorum of sitting members.
At least one-third of trustees hold doctoral or equivalent terminal degrees, while the remaining members are senior professionals with recognized expertise in education, finance, civil society, or public service. The composition includes representatives from academia, the ecclesiastical community, and independent sectors, thereby ensuring broad, mission-aligned perspectives in university governance.
The Board functions independently of university administration, and none of the current members are employed by or financially compensated by the institution, thus preserving objectivity and avoiding undue influence over day-to-day operations.
