CUE sponsors HOBY Iraq’s Sixth Youth Leadership Congress

For three days this past weekend, Catholic University in Erbil hosted the Sixth Youth Leadership Congress of HOBY Iraq.

The event was meant to inspire and develop leaders for the local communities in Iraq and Kurdistan.

On March 17, CUE’s Vice Chancellor for Public Relations, Stephen Rasche, spoke to the participating youths. The following day, Scott Reese from the Public Affairs Office at U.S. Consulate General in Erbil addressed the participants.

Several CUE students actively participated in organizing the congress and volunteering during the event.

The activities encouraged the youths to create a project around human, animal or plant’s rights and build up their team skills. This was followed up by a group discussion of how they had discovered their talents in the past and are currently
developing them.

The next group activity was done with the goal of teaching the students how to build a successful team from scratch.

Finally, on the last day of the congress, HOBY participants got a hands-on experience of cleaning and prettying up a public park in Ankawa, Erbil.

Founded in 1958, HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop a global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.
