Historical Background

The College of Nursing at Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) was founded in 2022 as part of the university’s strategic commitment to addressing the evolving healthcare challenges of the region. Its establishment aligns with CUE’s broader vision of strengthening the healthcare sector through the development of a well-trained, ethical, and competent nursing workforce. The college serves as a center for academic excellence and professional preparation, ensuring that graduates are equipped with the necessary competencies to provide high-quality patient care and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of medical sciences.

Since the commencement of its academic operations in the 2023–2024 academic year, the college has grown steadily, beginning with an initial cohort of seven students and expanding to a current enrollment of 18 students across the first and second academic stages. Despite its recent establishment, the institution is steadfast in its commitment to delivering rigorous education, clinical training, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Student Learning Opportunities

At the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE), nursing students benefit from a wide range of enriching experiences that go beyond the classroom. Through school health seminars and community outreach, they actively promote health awareness. Visits to other universities, laboratories, and skill labs foster interprofessional learning and broaden their academic perspective.

Students participate in national and global health events such as International Nursing Day and World Diabetes Day, encouraging civic engagement and global responsibility. Clinical training at Maryamana Hospital provides essential hands-on experience, while visits to imaging centers, endoscopy units, private clinics, and hospital laboratories deepen their understanding of diagnostics and patient care.

To support personal and academic growth, students are encouraged to join language courses, bootcamps, seminars, and interdisciplinary workshops that enhance communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. Involvement in campus life through the Students’ Life Office (SLO), including sports, leadership training, and social events, contributes to their holistic development.

These diverse learning opportunities align with CUE’s mission and values, preparing students to become competent, ethical, and community-focused nursing professionals equipped to meet today’s healthcare challenges.
