Work Schedule: 5 days from Saturday to Wednesday (Based on university calendar and policies)
Job Summary:
The Nursing Lab Assistant supports nursing faculty and students in the effective operation of a nursing skills lab. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining lab equipment and supplies, assisting with simulation activities, maintaining inventory, and ensuring a clean, organized learning environment. This role involves providing hands-on assistance during training sessions, offering technical support for lab technology, and fostering a supportive and safe space for students to practice clinical skills. Strong communication, organizational, and technical skills are essential. Our lab assistant should have commitment to our vision, mission and values adopted in the learning program.
Main Responsibilities:
- Supervise and assist nursing students with skills lab to meet clinical objectives in fundamental and adult nursing labs.
- Serve as the skills coordinator for fundamental and adult nursing labs.
- Assist in developing clinical activity days such as medication/Nursing or Maternity boot camps with lead faculty.
- Assist nursing students who are practicing procedures, evaluate their work, and advise nursing faculty of laboratory performance.
- Monitor and maintain confidential lab student records. Track student hours, number of sessions and notes on lab activities and performance.
- Set up for skills lab and simulation; assist with clean up, storage of supplies and equipment to maintain a clean organized skill lab environment.
- Maintain a current schedule of all nursing labs and simulation.
- Identify and maintain current reference materials, assisting students in finding reference materials in the nursing labs.
- Maintain inventory of lab/simulation equipment. Ensure that laboratory equipment is up to date and reflective of current practice.
- Maintain inventory of lab supplies and materials. Work with lead instructors in the ordering of course supplies/equipment.
- Operate and maintain simulation/skills equipment, recognizing when equipment is malfunctioning. Perform preventative maintenance. Troubleshoot and repair equipment when appropriate. Maintain maintenance and repair records.
- Remain current in the areas of best practice techniques or evidenced-based practice in nursing care.
- Remain current in the areas of standard precautions. Ensure that safety requirements are in place and faculty and students follow safe procedures.
- Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds.
- Instruction may involve daytime, evening, and weekend labs as well as development of labs for delivery using distance education teaching and other informatics learning technologies. Work hours per week and schedule may vary depending upon student, lab, and clinical lab needs.
- Mentor part time clinical staff that have students in the lab on correct teaching of and evaluating skills competencies.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have high ability in English language for speaking, understanding, writing and communication.
Education:
- A Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Nursing is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in nursing lab or diversity of clinical nursing fields (independently), with demonstrated abilities in those areas.
- Prior teaching experience in a university or clinical setting is preferred.
- Experience with clinical supervision and mentoring of nursing students is highly desired.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong clinical judgment and the ability to teach complex nursing concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices in fundamental of nursing and nursing education.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance teaching, clinical responsibilities, and professional development.

Work Environment:
- This role requires classroom, labs and clinical setting responsibilities, including work in hospitals, clinics, and community healthcare settings.
