Overview

To ensure impartial, third-party evaluation of program curricula, CUE has established Advisory Boards composed of external specialists aligned with each department’s academic program. Each Advisory Board brings together internal and external faculty, current students, alumni, and industry professionals, collectively offering an expert outside perspective on curricular development, teaching pedagogy, and academic standards. The primary role of each Advisory Board is to support the department in evaluating overall program effectiveness and to provide informed feedback and recommendations for improvement across curriculum design, instructional practice, and student learning outcomes.

As part of the annual assessment cycle, Advisory Boards will be invited to campus at the end of each academic year to participate in the institutional review process. Their input will contribute to a broader assessment framework that incorporates examination results, assessment data, and feedback from both faculty and students, following the process outlined in the university’s Institutional Assessment Plan.

The annual assessment centers on measuring the extent to which students are achieving the Program Learning Objectives (PLOs) for each department. Rather than reviewing all PLOs annually, each program will assess two to three PLOs per year, ensuring that resources are focused and the process remains manageable and meaningful. Under this staggered approach, all PLOs are assessed within a three-year cycle — typically two PLOs in year one, two in year two, and one to two in year three — allowing for comprehensive coverage without overburdening departments.

External assessment through the Advisory Boards provides an independent perspective, free from institutional bias, offering valuable insight into the quality of teaching and learning and the overall effectiveness of each program.
