President
Prof. Dr. Nazar Shabila, Ph.D.
Appointed in October 2022, Prof. Nazar Shabila is the fourth President of the Catholic University in Erbil. He is a Professor of Community Medicine with nearly two decades of academic leadership and over 30 years of professional experience across the medical, educational, and humanitarian sectors.
He previously served as Vice President for Scientific Affairs at Hawler Medical University and has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles. Prof. Shabila holds medical and public health degrees from Salahaddin University-Erbil, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and Hawler Medical University.
His work spans health systems, women’s health, medical education, and academic development, alongside active engagement in international networks and post-conflict humanitarian response.
Provost
Fr. Dr. Karam Shamasha
Fr. Dr. Karam Shamasha is a distinguished academic leader, moral theologian, and expert in Oriental and Religious Studies. With over a decade of experience in pastoral leadership, higher education, and community development, he currently serves as Provost at the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE).
His academic and professional journey bridges Iraq, Italy, and the United States, reflecting a deep commitment to theological education, intercultural dialogue, and the advancement of academic institutions in the region. As a multilingual scholar and dedicated priest, Fr. Karam is known for his passion for mentorship, interfaith engagement, and building resilient academic communities rooted in moral and humanitarian values.
