Department of Architecture Engineering
Head of department: Asst. Prof. Dr. Iqbal Naeem Gorgis
Description
Architectural Engineering was based on the idea of establishing a local Iraqi architectural school and achieving the principle of communication through (originality and modernity) owned by landmarks. Architecture is the process of learning how to combine science and art and then transfer them into a designed building using one’s own architectural imagination. This skill is to be crafted within a 5-year program, where students will get the opportunity to develop their design skills through workshops, design studios, history of architecture, structural analysis, and planning while learning how to be up to date with sustainable and construction and new building material and technology.
Vision
Intended to become a learning department that provides education, skills, creative ideas, and research services in architectural engineering. Consolidating the understanding of the local importance in the architectural constants that cover the physical environment (climatic environment, natural environment, lighting, sound concepts, and thermal comfort) and the specificity of place in the general planning of the city, urban fabric, urban design and construction in its local materials and techniques and its relationship to the human scale in the single building and its gatherings.
Mission
The mission is to graduate students with strong design skills, on site field experience to understand the relation between imagination and reality and work on their architectural personality through presentations to fit in today’s competitive work environment. Keeping abreast of advanced technologies in educational curricula, especially in the field of computers, and advanced modern applications in the fields of computer-assisted drawing and architectural rendering, and developing students’ skills in this field.
Objectives
The graduates from our department will be able to:
- Enhance the spirit of work in reconstruction, innovation, and renewal and design buildings from all aspects.
- Communicate well with the engineering team and be detailed oriented, analytical, and creative.
- Absorb global developments in architecture and benefit from them in promoting Iraqi architectural values.
- Enhancing the spirit of perseverance and continuing to develop the role of specialization through conducting scientific research and field studies, besides preparing to complete postgraduate studies (Master’s and Ph.D.) to strengthen the information base with a committed national affiliation.
- Crystallizing the foundations of an Iraqi architectural school, emphasizing the necessity of drawing inspiration from the Arab, Islamic and Iraqi architectural heritage, especially within a developed and contemporary concept with solid historical roots, and consolidating it to serve our country.
Job Prospects
- The architecture engineer will be either a professional designer or a site engineer.
- Designing, analyzing, and latently plans, prototypes, or structures.
- Ensuring building plans are operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.
- Controlling and monitoring firms and government departments that ensuring building plans are operating safely, efficiently, and reliably
