Seminar: “Exploring Metaheuristic Algorithms for Solving Optimization Problems”

On December 9th, 2023, Mrs. Dona A. Franci presented a seminar titled “Exploring Metaheuristic Algorithms for Solving Optimization Problems”. The seminar covered the field of metaheuristics, or algorithms inspired by nature, emphasizing on how these algorithms mimic the nature and take it as their inspirational source to learn from it to solve challenging real-world situations and problems related to optimization. During the seminar some of the well-known metaheuristic algorithms in the industry were reviewed to the audience with their source of inspiration such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Simulated Annealing (SA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Fitness Dependent Optimizer (FDO), and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). The presenter insisted—on having a balanced combinations of exploitation and exploration components of metaheuristic algorithms are considered crucial for the success of any metaheuristic algorithms. Moreover, the limitations of such algorithms were discussed.
