Seminar: “What is HSE?”

On July 22, 2023, under the Strengthening Institutional Capacity Project, funded by U.S. Department of State’s Near Eastern Affairs Bureau (NEA/AC), Mrs. Parez Najat Agha delivered a seminar titled “What does Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) mean?” for CUE’s admin staff, organized by the Wellness and Safety Office. Throughout the seminar, Mrs. Parez explained “Health, safety and environment (HSE) refers to a branch, or department, within a university or Company that is responsible for the observance and protection of occupational health and safety (OHS) rules and regulations along with environmental protection.” Moreover, “The purpose of health and safety is to protect your staff, student, visitor and members of the public when they are involved with your business.” Mrs. Parez also highlighted the responsibilities of HSE managers or coordinators. Furthermore, the meaning of hazards and risks and common ways to classify them was also addressed. The presenter also emphasized “Personal protective equipment (PPE), is equipment that will protect the user against health or safety risks at work; It can include items such as safety helmets, gloves, eye protection, high-visibility, clothing, safety footwear and safety harnesses; It keeps you from being liable for your own injuries; It increases the quality of your workday.”
