Accounting Department Celebrates International Accounting Day at CUE

The Accounting Department at the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) marked International Accounting Day with a special event held on November 17, 2025, at the Auditorium Hall, bringing together students, faculty, and university leadership to highlight accounting as a respected and rewarding profession.

Organized by the Accounting Department with the active participation of its staff and students, the event aimed to raise awareness of the vital role accounting plays in supporting businesses, governments, and society. The celebration also encouraged students to recognize the broader impact of financial literacy, transparency, and ethical decision-making in shaping the world around them.

The program opened with welcome remarks, followed by a speech from CUE President Dr. Nazar, who emphasized the importance of integrity, accuracy, and responsibility in the accounting profession. Students then delivered presentations reflecting on the role of accountants in decision-making and financial stability, demonstrating their growing understanding of the field’s real-world relevance. The event concluded with departmental remarks and a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, marking the occasion in a collegial and celebratory atmosphere.

International Accounting Day serves as an opportunity not only to honor the profession but also to inspire future accountants. The event underscored accounting’s contribution to financial transparency and institutional trust, while motivating students to pursue the discipline with professionalism and ethical commitment.

The date holds historical significance, as it is linked to Luca Pacioli, whose 1494 publication laid the foundation for modern double-entry bookkeeping—an innovation that continues to shape global financial systems today.

Through this celebration, CUE reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, professional awareness, and preparing students to contribute responsibly to economic and social development.
