Alfred Lord Tennyson’s Dora
On April 9th, 2022, the Quality Assurance at the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) organized a seminar entitled ” Alfred Lord Tennyson’s Dora ” presented by Dr. Ismael Muhammad Fahmi Saeed from the Department of English.
The seminar was attended by the CUE President Assistant Professor Dr. Riadh Francis, the Vice President of Academic Affairs Assistant Professor Dr. Iqbal Gorgis, and the CUE’s academic staff.
During the seminar, Dr. Ismael discussed the importance of the narrative Tennyson Ian poem “Dora ” as a distinguished creative and committed artistic work in the Victorian Age a few years before he was appointed as the Queen’s Poet Laureate. He discussed the literary as well as the social value of the said poem. There are various implications in it, particularly the impact of industrialization on the traditional family structure and the complexities of love and marriage in a rapidly transformational period of time. Among the vital themes therein is: what can the present day reading public learn from this literary text?
