CUE Celebrates English Language Day with Literature Music and Student Achievements

The English Language Department conducted an event titled “English Language Day” at CUE on February 12^th, 2026. It was supervised and planned by English language department Academics: Dr. Anis Haddad, Dr. Olga Babenko, Dr. Rukhsar Nadhm, Ms. Marwa Basheer, and Ms. Mirna Shikwana. The event began with an inspiring speech by Professor Dr. Anis Behnam Haddad, Head of the English Language Department. He highlighted the department’s mission and vision, stating: “At the English Language Department, students learn to explore the beauty of literature and the power of communication; they learn how language can influence minds, build bridges between people, and open opportunities across the globe—in education, media, and beyond.”

One of the most heartwarming moments of the event was a hymn recited by graduate Lara Benyamin, accompanied by her young child, Fidel, on the piano. This touching performance demonstrated that the department continues to support and celebrate its graduates, giving them meaningful roles even after completing their studies.

Another section of the event was celebrating the victory of the English language department’s football team in the University Championship.

Adding to the lively atmosphere, two talented students performed two songs in English.

The event featured poetry recitations by two talented fourth-year student, Diyar Shaweesh and Sherzad Shamo, who impressed the attendees with their beautifully written poems.

The event concluded with a gallery of some paintings and handmade art from EL students and also a lecturer.

This event was to highlight the importance of the English language as a tool for knowledge, communication, and cultural exchange. To explore human experiences (through English) in different forms such as literature, hymns, singing, art etc.

Moreover, to encouraging English language students to allocate most of their time for practicing English through different activities so that they cope with the rapid development in the field of language studies.

The English language department at CUE is more than an academic institution, it’s a department that celebrates achievements and creates life-long connections.
