CUE Celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities with Awareness Event on Accessibility

The Student Life Office (SLO) conducted an event on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at CUE. The event was presented by Ms. Btonia Orahin, SLO Assistant, and Ahmad Salah, a third-stage student at the Business Management Department, on December 3rd, 2025.

The event was mainly about raising awareness regarding the significance of creating accessible environments and educating on various types of disabilities, as well as addressing common misconceptions regarding persons with disabilities.

The event started with an introduction of what disability is—since some people misunderstand this concept on a high level. Later it continued with different types of disabilities that included almost all types, both visible and invisible–partial and complete disabilities. After that, many misconceptions and stereotypes were mentioned regarding people with disabilities. At the end, various challenges and solutions were raised regarding the needed equipment for making an accessible environment for all; CUE was taken as an example.

This event is really important at this time in order to remove the limits and barriers that are built by society towards people with disabilities. People’s views should be changed, and they should stop judging based on someone’s disability. Disabled people are full of creativity and have dreams like any other person, and it’s important to involve them in activities and roles. Therefore, raising awareness should always continue. It is also important to know what tools each disabled person needs and how this group should be treated without sympathy, because disabled people are an integral group of society and should be treated equally.

Aligned with CUE’s mission and core values, the event advocates for disability rights and inclusion. Many attendees of the event who were staff members showed their interests in working on disability inclusion more at CUE.
