CUE conducted an Academic Debate for first-stage students that was for their final exams

The event served as the final assessment for the academic debate subject. First-year students participated in structured, live debate sessions overseen by the IRD department lecturers, where they were tasked with applying the theoretical frameworks of argumentation and critical analysis learned throughout the semester. The International Relations and Diplomacy Department academic staff acted as lecturers and evaluators alongside the complete cohort of first-year undergraduate students from diverse academic departments.

The primary objective of this event was to comprehensively examine and assess the first-year students from different academic departments. The examinations were designed to rigorously evaluate their accumulated knowledge, critical thinking, practical skills, and academic attitudes, thereby measuring their overall level of competence in the subject of academic debate.

Following the examinations, students passed their exam with confidence and self-assurance, giving them a sense of achievement and reward for their hard work over the past weeks. Therefore, Muhammad Ebrahimi, Head of the IRD Department, quoted: “The final examinations highlighted not just the students’ ability to argue effectively, but their profound understanding of the socioeconomic and political challenges shaping our modern world.”

As part of CUE’s mission and vision in improving students in various fields, students will now transition into their second-year studies, where they are expected to utilize the research and public speaking methodologies acquired during this academic debate course in their future seminars, term papers, and collaborative projects.

The instruction of academic debate at the undergraduate level is fundamentally important because it successfully transforms student learning from a passive memorization process into an active, high-level analytical activity. Through this rigorous coursework and final assessment, the university equips students with the critical thinking, research, and communication skills necessary for professional success, civic engagement, and effective argumentation in a complex world.
