CUE Delegation Attending the Inauguration of the General Complex of the Chaldean Antonian Order of Saint Hormizd in Ankawa

On Saturday, January 22, 2022, a delegation from the Catholic University in Erbil attended the inauguration of the Chaldean Antonian Order of Saint Hormizd (O.A.O.C.)’s new complex in Erbil to replace the Mar Gorgis monastery in Mosul, which ISIS destroyed in 2014.

The event was attended by high-profile (Catholic, Assyrian, and Syriac) church leaders, Federal and Kurdistan Region government representatives, representatives of various religious and ethnic minorities, and national and international humanitarian agencies.

The CUE delegation was headed by His Grace, Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda, in his capacity as the Archbishop of the Chaldean Catholic Archdiocese in Erbil and as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chancellor, and included Fr. Dankha Joola, the Executive Vice-Chancellor for Administration, Asst. Prof. Dr. Manhal Boya, the Director of Continuing Education and Curriculum Development, Mrs. Vida Hanna, the Director of Public and International Relations, and Mr. Rody Sher, the Program Facilitator and the Master of the Ceremony (MC).

The event started with a speech by Anba Dr. Samer Soreshow, General Superintendent of the Chaldean Antonian Order of Saint Hormizd, where he gave a brief summary of the life of the Order, its role in the history of the Chaldean Church, and the facilities that the new complex offers. A very distinct feature is specifying a department to work on the valuable ancient manuscripts in Iraq. The department contains hundreds of such manuscripts related to various fields. Most of which are written in the Syriac language, some in Neo-Aramaic, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, and Hebrew.

On the other hand, H.G. Archbishop Bashar stressed the role of this important complex and expressed CUE’s full readiness to support and continue this collaboration between the two institutions.

Moreover, Anba Dr. Sameer concluded his speech by thanking the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) for its role in preparing and organizing the event.
