CUE Football League Tournament Promotes Teamwork, Wellness, and Student Engagement
The Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) concluded its Football League Tournament, organized by the Student Life Office in collaboration with the CUE Sports Club, bringing students together in a competitive and engaging sports environment on campus.

Matches were held every Sunday and Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. on the CUE Field, with students grouped into teams that competed throughout the tournament for the championship title. The initiative aimed to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their football skills while strengthening teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

The tournament was coordinated with the support of Student Board member Rostam Salman, who served as team organizer, alongside Mohammad Adnan as the main referee and Sufyan Ismael as assistant referee. Their efforts ensured smooth organization and fair play throughout the competition.

The final match concluded with the Dragons Team crowned as champions of the CUE Football League Tournament. Individual achievements were also recognized, with Sudad Salim from the Medics Team awarded Best Goalkeeper and Nazar Karis from the Dragons Team named Top Scorer of the tournament.

The trophy ceremony was attended by Dr. Ghaith Al-Abdulla, Dr. Anis Haddad, and Mr. Yohana Al-Zeebaree, who congratulated the participants and emphasized the importance of extracurricular activities in university life. Welcoming students at the final match, Dr. Ghaith Al-Abdulla highlighted that the tournament celebrated values central to the CUE community, including teamwork, discipline, and mutual respect, while encouraging continued participation in future sports events.

Speaking on the role of sports at CUE, Mr. Yohana Al-Zeebaree, Student Life Officer, noted that football activities and the Sports Club play an essential role in supporting students’ physical wellbeing and promoting a culture of healthy lifestyles, cooperation, and fitness.
Beyond competition, the CUE Football League Tournament provided students with a positive break from academic pressures and reinforced the university’s strong commitment to student wellness, community building, and holistic campus life.
