CUE Hosts Dr. Ruaa Ahmed for a Thought-Provoking Session on Emotional Awareness and Mental Health

The Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) welcomed Dr. Ruaa Ahmed, psychological researcher and educational specialist, for an engaging lecture exploring emotional awareness and mental health among students.

Held as part of the Student Affairs Department’s co-curricular activities for the new academic year, the session invited students to reflect on their emotional experiences and learn practical strategies for maintaining psychological well-being in everyday life.

During the talk, Dr. Ruaa introduced her new book “Ruh” (“Soul”) — a practical guide that helps readers understand, track, and respond to their emotions with self-compassion. Through interactive exercises and reflective discussions, students explored how emotional awareness can strengthen relationships, improve focus, and promote healthier coping mechanisms.

Addressing the influence of social media and modern pressures on mental health, Dr. Ruaa emphasized the importance of emotional openness and balance in a world where many young people face growing stress and isolation.

Students described the lecture as eye-opening and deeply relevant, highlighting the value of learning how to understand and regulate emotions. Each participant received a complimentary copy of “Ruh” from the author.

The session reaffirms CUE’s ongoing commitment to supporting the mental and emotional well-being of its students through lectures, activities, and the university’s on-campus counseling clinic, which offers professional and confidential guidance to all members of the community.
