CUE MLS Students Gain Hands-On Exposure Through Scientific Visit to Media Diagnostic Center

As part of CUE’s commitment to bridging academic learning with real-world application, 26 fourth-year Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) students participated in a scientific field trip to the Media Diagnostic Center on 30 November 2025. The visit, organized by Ms. Lana Basil and Ms. Hataw Fryad, provided students with a comprehensive look into the operational, technical, and safety aspects of professional laboratory environments.

A Practical Extension of Classroom Learning

The field trip aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of laboratory procedures, diagnostic technologies, and safety protocols by observing real workflows in a functioning medical facility. As senior MLS students preparing to enter the professional field, gaining exposure to authentic working conditions is essential for developing confidence and readiness.

During the visit, students toured the laboratory in two groups, accompanied by their supervisors — Ms. Lana, Ms. Hataw, Dr. Shirin, Ms. Maryam, and Ms. Ayya — along with specialized staff from the center. The program began with a welcome briefing by the lab leader, after which students proceeded to the Radiology Department, where a radiology specialist explained key diagnostic tools, including CT scans and MRI, and their clinical uses in disease detection.

The groups then visited core laboratory units such as Hematology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry. In each section, lab professionals demonstrated routine diagnostic tests, introduced equipment used for analysis, and highlighted the standard protocols that guide laboratory accuracy and safety. The tour concluded with a visit to the Media Clinic and Beauty Section, where students were encouraged to ask questions and further explore areas of interest.

Learning Outcomes and Educational Impact

The visit offered students an immersive learning experience that complemented their coursework. By observing laboratory operations firsthand, they strengthened their understanding of diagnostic processes, quality assurance practices, documentation procedures, and the practical application of theoretical concepts taught in the classroom. The trip also reinforced the importance of professional preparedness, safety awareness, and effective collaboration in clinical settings.
