Ethical Issues in Classroom Assessment
On Saturday, 20th November 2021, Quality assurance at the Catholic University in Erbil organized a seminar entitled “Ethical Issues in Classroom Assessment”, presented by Dr Ali Darabi, English Department.
Throughout the seminar, Dr Ali explained that ethics is an essential part of classroom assessment. Ethical assessment practices play an integral role in assessment to avoid potential harm to students and enhance their learning. He further added that unethical assessment practices could result in misinterpreting student performance. Dr Ali recommended that university teachers are required to use high-quality information to make appropriate decisions about students’ learning.
He concluded that assessment is never neutral and needs to be understood in light of the broader context. Given this, ethics in classroom assessment must be at the top of education agendas.
In the end, Quality assurance awarded a certificate of appreciation to Dr Ali for his efforts and the valuable information that he passed to the CUE faculty.
