Ethics in the Contemporary World Workshop

On November 14 and 15, the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) in cooperation with the Mustard Seed Foundation, organized a two-part international workshop considering fundamental ethics “Ethics in the Contemporary World” presented by guest speaker Mr. David Fisher. Mr. Fisher has served as a leading executive and consultant for major American national and multinational corporations.

On the first day of this workshop, Mr. David reflected on and discussed several questions such as the meaning of ethics, the ethical frameworks (rule, motive, situation), and examples from the Holy Bible. Furthermore, he also presented an argument regarding genetic modification from an ethical perspective.

On the second day of the workshop, Mr. David made his argument on a significant ethical statement, namely Abortion. He spoke about the value of every human life, and the beginning of life at conception, with reference to the Holy Bible and Christian ethics. He also argued using scientific sources and evidence. Furthermore, Mr. David also presented his argument on End-of-Life ethics and gave a brief explanation with examples to clarify it. Other topics such as Ethics at Work were also discussed during this workshop.

After each session, attendants asked questions and were able to discuss their perspectives with the presenter.
