Health Safety and Environment

On November 6, 2022, Mrs. Parez conducted a seminar titled “Health Safety and Environment”. Throughout the seminar, Mrs. Parez explained the meaning of Health and Safety Environment, which Refers to a branch, or department, within a University or Company that is responsible for the observance and protection of occupational health and safety (OHS) rules and regulations along with environmental protection.

The internal and external benefits of HSE, and HSE coordinator responsibilities in the university, were also clarified. During the seminar, Mrs. Parez talked about the difference between a hazard and a risk, whereby a hazard is something that can cause harm, e.g. electricity, chemicals, working up a ladder, noise, a keyboard, a bully at work, stress, etc. And a Risk is the chance or probability that a person will be harmed or experience an adverse health effect if exposed to a hazard.

Furthermore, the five steps of risk assessment were highlighted as steps such as

Step 1: Identify the hazards,

Step 2: Decide who might be harmed and how,

Step 3: Evaluate the risks and decide on precautions,

Step 4: Record your findings and implement them,

Step 5: Review your risk assessment and update it if necessary.

Mrs. Parez explained the points by clarifying them with examples. This seminar was organized by the department of Medical Laboratory Science.
