High-rise residential buildings and their impact on the Social, Environmental, and Urban Fabrics of the cities in Iraq
On April 11th, 2022, the Quality Assurance at the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) organized a seminar entitled “Highrise residential buildings and their impact on the Social, Environmental, and Urban Fabrics of the cities in Iraq,” presented by Mr. Petros Khammo, and Mr. Zaid Khammo, Architecture Department at CUE University.
The seminar was attended by CUE’s President, Asst. Prof. Dr. Riadh Francis and the Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Iqbal Gorgis, other heads of departments, and CUE’s academic staff.
The seminar was merely to indicate the scare of the current lasting situation of constructing massive numbers of residential towers in various cities all through Iraq. Showing their effect on the city urban fabric, city skyline of buildings, and how this is affecting the natural sunlight on the surrounding neighborhoods. Nonetheless, presented with diagrams a study of what must be the maximum height in the northern cities of Iraq (mountain topography), relatively densely populated cities such as Baghdad, and southern cities such as Basra.
During the seminar, Mr. Petros and Mr. Zaid Khammo have provided a number of ongoing residential complexes being built in the city of Erbil and discussed architectural details of those projects, and their impact on the social aspect, while having an open discussion with the attendees regarding the presented examples.
In the end, Quality Assurance Awarded Mr. Petros Khammo and Mr. Zaid Khammo certificates of appreciation for their diligent and remarkable seminar provided to the CUE faculty.
