His Eminence, Cardinal Mar Louis Raphael Sako, Patriarch of the Chaldean Church in the World Visiting the Catholic University in Erbil

On Monday, July 26th, 2021, His Eminence, Mar Louis Raphael Sako, the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon and the Head of the Chaldean Catholic Church in the world, visited the Catholic University in Erbil. The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the CUE facilities and support the university’s development. 

His Eminence was accompanied by Mar Basilio Yaldo, Mar Robert Saeed, the Auxiliary Bishops of the Chaldean Catholic Patriarchate in Baghdad, and Fr. Ephrem Gliyana, the Rector of St. Peter Seminary in Ankawa- Erbil. 

The delegation was welcomed by Rev. Fr. Dankha Joola, the Executive Vice-Chancellor for Administration, members of the Board of Trustees of CUE, Dr. Fareed Hanna, Dr. Habeeb Hanna, and Dr. Nazar Shabila; Dr. Iqbal Gorgis, the Deputy President and Vice-President of CUE; Ms. Vida Hanna, the Director of Public and International Relations and other CUE Head of Departments.

During the meeting, Rev. Fr. Dankha Joola extended warm thanks to the delegation for supporting CUE and their valuable visit. He briefly introduced the university’s mission and future plans and elaborated on the new departments that the university is aspiring to open. Then, Ms. Vida Hanna and Mr.Namir Jibrail delivered a presentation on the university’s ongoing development projects and its collaborations with the international institutions of higher education. His Eminence, Mar Louis Raphael Sako, expressed his excitement about the constructive outcomes that CUE produces as part of its projects, academic plans, and partnerships to develop higher education and promote coexistence in the Kurdistan Region. Additionally, he valued the importance of conducting conferences about religious dialogue to boost cultural diversity and peaceful coexistence. 

The meeting was followed by a tour around the university campus, in which the delegation became familiar with the teaching facilities and the new departments of the university. 

The delegation wished the university and its staff the best of luck in fulfilling the university’s mission.
