“Nobody’s Listening” Event at CUE Campus

On September 18th, 2024, the Catholic University in Erbil hosted, in collaboration with Yazda and Upstream International, the Virtual Reality Screening event under the title “Nobody’s Listening”, commemorating the 10th memorial of the Yazidi genocide.

A delegation from the U.S. Consulate in Erbil attended the event, headed by H.E. The U.S. Consul General, Steve Bitner. The delegation was welcomed by H.G. CUE’s Head of Board of Trustees and Chancellor Archbishop Bashar Warda.

The event began with opening remakrs delivered by the CUE President and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nazar Shabila, followed by a speech by H.E. the U.S. Consul General, Steven Bitner, as well as a speech by the Program Coordinator at Yazda, Ms. Zoe Paris.

Furthermore, Yazidi survivor who is a CUE student, named Inas, delivered a speech about her testimony, emphasizing the needs of the Yazidi community in Sinjar.

After the welcoming remarks, attendants headed to the SLO zone on campus to learn about exclusive presentations, as well as experience the VR screening. These technologies help to document and raise awareness about the genocide. The aim of the event was to highlight the role of technology in memorializing and educating future generations about the atrocity that happened against the Yazidi people 10 years ago.
