Philosophy, Science and Democracy

On Wednesday, Nov 3, 2021, at the Catholic University in Erbil the International Relations department held a seminar entitled “Philosophy, Science and Democracy”.

The seminar was conducted by Dr. Showan Khurshid (Lect., In IR Department), which was attended by the President of CUE, Assist. Prof. Dr. Riadh Francis, the Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Iqbal Gorgis and CUE’s Head of Departments and its academic staff.

During the seminar, Dr. Showan argued that if we accept that humans live in the Ecological Niche of Knowledge (ENK), then we should expect that some forms the competition among humans take place through making claims of knowledge. In the ENK two kinds of knowledge are necessary the technical-natural knowledge and moral ones. If so, then it is crucial to organize the competition through the claim of knowledge in the best possible way. Dr. Showan pointed out the institutions that deal with competition through knowledge. Dr Showan showcased the relevance of morality and philosophy its impact on democracy. He also shared different valuable information regarding political situations across the world.

Toward the end of the seminar, Dr. Showan answered all the inquiries and questions by the attendees, and Dr. Francis presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Showan for his efforts and the valuable information that he passed to the CUE faculty.
