Preparing CUE Graduates for the Job Market

As part of its ongoing efforts to prepare students for life beyond graduation, the Career Development Office (CDO) at the Catholic University in Erbil hosted a two-week Career Readiness Bootcamp in July 2025. Held at the SLO Zone on campus and supported by the Strengthening Institutional Capacity (SIC) Project, the program equipped participants with essential tools to navigate today’s evolving job market in Kurdistan and Iraq.

Building Skills, Confidence, and Career Direction

Led by Mr. Mustafa Farhang, Career Development Officer, the bootcamp offered hands-on sessions in key areas such as:

  • CV and cover letter writing
  • LinkedIn profile optimization
  • AI-assisted job search tools
  • Professional email writing
  • Personal branding and self-assessment
  • Mock interviews and role plays

Ms. Lezan Bander, CUE’s HR Officer, also contributed her expertise during the interview preparation segment, giving students practical insights from an employer’s perspective.

“This bootcamp empowers our graduates to confidently market themselves to employers and pursue careers aligned with their strengths,” said Mr. Farhang.

Real Engagement, Tangible Progress

The sessions were interactive and reflective, encouraging students to think strategically about their professional identity. Participants practiced articulating their strengths, engaged in mock interviews, and explored AI tools that could enhance their job search.

“I updated my LinkedIn and practiced interviews for the first time. I now feel more ready to apply for real jobs,” shared Sheriyar, an MLS graduate.

“The AI tools session was very helpful for improving my CV and preparing better cover letters,” added Ranya, a student from the IT department.

Outcomes and Impact

Approximately 20 students participated each week, gaining valuable insights and practical experience. The bootcamp helped students:

  • Strengthen their digital presence
  • Improve application materials
  • Boost confidence in interviews
  • Approach job searches with a clear plan

By offering structured career support, the initiative directly supports CUE’s mission to produce career-ready graduates capable of thriving in competitive and evolving industries.
