Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Grand Opening of CUE Cultural and Social Center 

On Wednesday 24 March 2021 the Catholic University in Erbil (CUE) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the CUE Cultural and Social Center at the University’s Campus. 

This center will function as a communication gateway between the CUE and the society in various educational, cultural, and social sectors. Additionally, the building will serve as a club and cafeteria for the university students, staff, and affiliates. 

The opening ceremony was attended by His Grace Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Trustee of Catholic University in Erbil, Assist.Prof.Dr.Riadh Francis the university’s President and Vice-chancellor, local government officials, NGO representatives in Ankawa, and academia and all members of academic and admin staff.

The ceremony began with a speech by His Grace Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda. In his speech, he stressed the importance of boosting and advancing the vision and mission of the university, keep pace with modern teaching and learning, social activities, and providing a safe environment. 

Also, he stated in his remark that “ the university is not only a project for two to three years but it’s a project for a long run aiming at providing opportunities and safe environment. 

His Grace Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda, on the other hand, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), Knight of Columbus (K of C), and the university’s staff for their tremendous support by helping to boost the mission of the university to deliver up-to-date education system and its necessary and essential facilities, this newly opened state of art club and cafeteria being just one of them.

The ceremony ended by having dinner in an enjoyable atmosphere.
