Seminar: Spoilers in the Peace Process

On December 11, 2024, Mr. Ahmed Swar conducted a seminar titled “Spoilers in the Peace Process”. Throughout the seminar, Mr. Ahmed identified these spoilers as well as their types, strategies and ways to manage them. He added that, spoilers are individuals, groups, or even external powers that actively work to undermine peace processes for their own political, ideological, or economic interests. They exploit divisions, fuel mistrust, and often disrupt negotiations, ensuring that the cycle of violence and instability continues. Mr. Ahmed explored how these spoilers operate, why they are so effective, and the things that might be done to counter their influence. He emphasized that understanding their role is essential for those who hope to overcome the barriers to lasting peace in deeply divided regions.
