The Necessity of Paradigm Shifts in Education

On Saturday, October 16, 2021, the Quality Assurance in coordination with the Bologna Committee at the Catholic University in Erbil organized a workshop titled “The Necessity of Paradigm Shifts in Education”.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Karmand Abdulla HamadHH, (Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Soran University) which was attended by the President of CUE, Assist. Prof. Dr. Riadh Francis, the Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Iqbal Gorgis, CUE Head of Departments and its academic staff along with Mr. Muhammad Ahmed (Salahaddin University), Ms. Shaida Khosraw (Salahaddin University)

During the workshop, Dr. Karmand presented a detail-oriented focus on the student-centred learning approach and the importance of t ‘The Necessity of Paradigm Shifts in Education: Moving towards Learning Paradigm’ which was focusing on the importance of change in education. Following, he addressed three different models for understanding or approaches of teaching including; first, transmissive approach, second, facilitative and constructive approach, and the third the transformative critical approach. Accordingly, he highlighted different aspects of these approaches in order to choose the best approach for teaching. Additionally, he provided the faculty with lessons learned from previous experiences to avert possible challenges that may encounter. By the end of the workshop, Dr. Francis presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Karmand for his efforts and the valuable information that he carried to the CUE faculty.
